Human Factors 101
Studies in adverse events have identified employing human factors principles as a key tactic in making health care safer. The Human Factors 101 course was developed by the Healthcare Human Factors Group as part of the team’s ongoing effort to address the general unfamiliarity with human factors engineering and how it can be used to systematically reduce adverse events in healthcare institutions.
The four-hour interactive and engaging course provides an overview of the following:
» The importance and value of human factors concepts in a clinical context
» User-centered design and evaluation
» Physical ergonomics
» Mental workload and human error
Course Fee: $100/person, which is waived for UHN employees
Location: Centre for Global eHealth Innovation at University Health Network

“Understanding the human factors element is becoming very important in our clinical work as we trial new products and try to better understand why errors and near misses occur from a patient safety perspective. I would highly recommend this course for all clinicians.”
- Jane Moser, Former Director of Nursing, University Health Network
