Deborah Chan is a Human Factors Specialist with the Healthcare Human Factors Group at the Centre for Global eHealth Innovation. She specializes in evaluating software interfaces and applications for ease of use and excels at analyzing complex workflows and interactions. Deborah has been involved in a number of projects sponsored by Canada Health Infoway to accelerate the adoption of electronic health technologies including the eHealth Collaboratory and the Enhancing Emergency Services Project with the Scarborough Hospital.

Deborah is also the coordinator and a presenter of Human Factors 101, a course offered to clinicians and healthcare workers at University Health Network with the goal of teaching the basics of human factors in an interactive and engaging manner. Over the past year, the interest and participation in the Human Factors Course has continued to grow with over 200 participants to date.

Deborah studied Systems Design Engineering at the University of Waterloo. This engineering discipline explores design and problem solving methodologies with a focus on analyzing and designing complex organizations and problems using a systems perspective. This training has been highly valuable in breaking down complex medical problems and systems into individual components for analysis and improvement.
